The Center for Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (CEVI) is a pivotal national initiative designed to address the logistical and infrastructural challenges associated with the electrification of the federal vehicle fleet. As the federal government moves towards a more sustainable and environmentally friendly approach by electrifying its vehicle fleet, the need for adequate Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) becomes crucial. The CEVI plays an essential role in this transition.
Working in collaboration with various partners within the General Services Administration (GSA), CEVI is tasked with formulating a comprehensive strategy to facilitate federal agencies in acquiring and installing the necessary EVSE and related infrastructure at their facilities. This involves a coordinated effort to ensure that the infrastructure is not only available but also efficiently integrated into existing facilities to support the operational requirements of an electrified fleet.
The program’s efforts include evaluating the current infrastructure capabilities, projecting future needs, and identifying strategic locations for EVSE installation to maximize accessibility and convenience for federal fleet operations. By doing so, CEVI aims to foster a seamless transition to electric vehicles (EVs), ensuring that the federal fleet can operate effectively while minimizing environmental impact. This forward-thinking approach underscores the federal government’s commitment to sustainable practices and reducing carbon emissions, aligning with broader environmental goals and policies.
