Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is a federal agency within the U.S. Department of Transportation that oversees the safety and efficiency of the national aerospace system. The FAA is responsible for regulating all aspects of civil aviation, including the management of air traffic, the certification of aircraft and pilots, and the enforcement of aviation safety standards. Its mission is to ensure that the U.S. maintains the safest, most efficient aerospace system in the world, covering everything from commercial airline operations to general aviation and unmanned aircraft systems (drones).

In addition to its regulatory role, the FAA is actively involved in advancing the modernization of air traffic control systems through initiatives like the Next Generation Air Transportation System (NextGen), which aims to enhance the capacity and efficiency of U.S. airspace. The FAA also collaborates with international aviation organizations to harmonize global aviation standards and address emerging challenges, such as integrating new technologies and managing increasing air traffic.
