Operations and Maintenance (O&M) encompasses a broad array of services that are rendered under a contract with a federal agency. This term refers to a variety of tasks which primarily revolve around keeping a facility or system operating efficiently, adhering to established guidelines, and ensuring safety measures are in place. Services under O&M can range from cemetery maintenance, electrical systems, energy management control systems to elevator inspections and maintenance. Besides these, it also includes tasks related to energy management, audits and fire alarm system maintenance.
O&M does not restrict itself to just technical or mechanical aspects, but also extends to services that are crucial for maintaining the cleanliness and aesthetics of the facility. This includes janitorial services, landscaping, snow removal, painting, and pest control. The maintenance and repair of marine vessels also fall under this umbrella. Furthermore, services such as plumbing or pipe fitting, refrigeration or heating, cooling, and air conditioning (HVAC), and smart building technologies are integral components of O&M. Each of these services is vital for the daily functioning, preservation, and sustainability of federal facilities and systems.
