Requests for Information (RFIs)

Requests for Information (RFIs) are formal inquiries issued by organizations looking to gather detailed knowledge or clarification about a product, service, or contract. Often utilized in the procurement process, RFIs aim to collect information to guide decision-making, without necessarily resulting in a direct purchase or contract. It’s an essential tool used by federal agencies, private companies, and other institutions to ensure they have access to the most recent and relevant data before embarking on a project or buying goods.

RFIs are not a commitment to buy, but rather an opportunity to learn. They help buyers understand the capabilities of potential suppliers, ascertain market trends, or clarify ambiguous areas in a possible contract. In contrast, suppliers or vendors use RFIs to showcase their offerings, build relationships, and better understand what the buyer needs. Overall, RFIs lead to smarter, better-informed decisions, contributing to more successful procurement outcomes.
