Effective August 10, 2026, GSA removed the National Stock Number (NSN) field from the FAS Catalog Platform Product File. Contractors whose catalogs still contain NSN data may now need to clean up their listings.
What Changed
The NSN field is being removed from FCP Product Files.
Although the field will remain in the legacy SIP template, contractors should not use it. If an outdated Product File containing the NSN field is submitted through FCP, that field will simply be ignored.
The Rule Depends on What You Sell
AbilityOne authorized distributors:
NSNs for AbilityOne products should be entered in the Manufacturer Part Number (MPN) field instead of a separate NSN field.
Other MAS contractors:
NSNs generally should not appear in product listings because contractors are not awarded NSNs as part of their MAS contracts.
What Contractors Should Check
If your catalog previously included NSNs:
- Review your current FCP catalog data for NSN entries.
- Remove NSNs from product descriptions where they were added as text.
- AbilityOne distributors should confirm that applicable NSNs are correctly represented in the MPN field.
- Do not continue populating the NSN column in older templates.
Why This Matters
This is more than a template cleanup. Incorrect NSN placement can create unnecessary catalog corrections and potentially delay future FCP submissions.
GSA is clearly separating AbilityOne NSN handling from standard MAS product identification, so contractors should make sure their catalog data follows the new structure before the next modification.
